Rare on a road cut along Highway 89, 4.3 miles southeast of the town of Sierraville.

In rocks along road just below Castle Lake, in a north facing cirque with an abrupt 1000' backwall; 14 miles s.w. of Mt. Shasta on n. side of 6600' eastern spur of Trinity Mts.,; 2000' above Sacramento R. within 10 air miles of its headwater to the west.
