Channel Islands: Santa Catalina Island. Northeast facing slope below summit of Black Jack Mountain. Open chaparral dominated by Quercus pacifica with Rhus integrifolia and scattered Arctostaphylos sp. Dense understory of annual grasses.

Cypress Mtn. Rd. Quercus agrifolia woodland over serpentine substrate. Umbellularia, Pinus sabiniana and Arbutus menziesii occasional. Understory of native grasses and abundant ferns, mostly Polypodium, Pentagramma and Adiantum.

Dangermond Preserve inland from Point Conception. Long Canyon Road. Quercus agrifolia woodland with understory of annual grasses.

Vineyard road, west of Paso Robles. Rolling hills vegetated by oak woodlands with pasture in low areas. Quercus agrifolia woodland with Q. lobata and Umbellularia californica occasional. Understory of Lonicera sp. and Toxicodendron, annual grasses common.

Briones Reservoir in open Quercus agrifolia woodland. Growing on concrete drainage in partial shade.

Wind Wolves Preserve. Open ridgetop scrub of Lupinus, Eriogonum and native grasses on coarse, decomposing granitic soil.

Channel Islands: Santa Cruz Island. Ridgeline forming southern rim of Central Valley, at intersection with road to Willows. Open, tall, ridgeline chaparral dominated by Quercus pacifica.

Channel Islands: Santa Catalina Island. Bulrush Canyon, below turnoff to Salta Verde. Woodland of Quercus pacifica with Sambucus nigra ssp. caerulea, Heteromeles arbutifolia and Toxicodendron diversilobum. Understory of annual grasses.

White Mountains. Near the mouth of Jeffrey Mine (Sparkplug Mine) Canyon. Dry wash with Atriplex, Artemisia tridentata, Ericameria nauseosa and other desert shrubs. Metamorphic substrate.

Channel Islands: Santa Cruz Island. Along road through Central Valley west of Portezuela. Large north facing rock outcrop with Lotus dendroidius and Artemisia californica.

Channel Islands: Santa Catalina Island. Bulrush Canyon, below Salta Verde turnoff. Quercus pacifica woodland with dense canopy. Thick shrub layer of Heteromeles arbutifolia, Lonicera hispidula, Sambucus nigra and uncommon Arctostaphylos.

Channel Islands: Santa Cruz Island. Canada del Puerto. Large canyon with riparian vegetation of Populus and Salix. North facing slope with dense canopy of Quercus agrifolia, understory of Stachys, Symphoricarpos and Lathyrus.

East of El Rosario in transitional area between coastal scrub and Boojum dominated desert. Lycium sp and Agave shawii and several cacti codominant.

For̻t Bebour. Trail to La Rivi̬re. Primary cloud forest dominated by Acacia heterophylla, Dombeya spp. and Erica. Hymenophyllaceae and other ferns abundant in understory.

For̻t des Hauts de Mont Vert. Anthropogenic roadside vegetation dominated by introduced Cryptomeria japonica and native shrubs and ferns.

Mount Madonna County Park. Sprig Trail. Open area within mixed evergreen forest. Umbellularia, Quercus parvula, Notholithocarpus, Arbutus with understory of ferns.

Highway 168 between Big Pine and Westgard Pass, at the narrows. Roadcut through steep, narrow canyon through Pinyon Juniper woodland. Non-granitic substrate.

Channel Islands. San Nicolas Island. South end, ca. 600m northwest of the pier. Low, open scrub of Eriogonum, Lomatium, Lycium, Isocoma and Opuntia.
