Channel Islands: Santa Cruz Island. Steep east facing slope above canyon below Lagunas Secas. Just south of large Lyonothamnus grove. Scrub with Lupinus albifrons, Arctostaphylos insularis, Lotus spp, Hazardia detonsa, Quercus pacifica and Mimulus longifl

Del Monte Forest, on the Monterey Peninsula. Ecotone of a Pinus muricata and Cupressus goveniana forest with a Pinus radiata and Quercus agrifolia forest. Dense shrub understory of Arctostaphylos, Vaccinium and Pteridium.

Near Alpine and Bon Tempe reservoirs, between Mt. Tamalpais and Fairfax. Mixed forest of Sequoia sempervirens and Pseudotsuga menziesii with Umbellularia, Arbutus and Lithocarpus. Growing on bare soil mostly covered by litter.

White Mountains. Cottonwood Basin, in the vicinity of Granite Meadow. Meadow of grasses and Artemisia with scattered patches of Populus tremuloides. Surrounding vegetation is Bristlecone Pine forest on granite.

Game lands in pocosin with Acer rubrum, Quercus nigra, Taxodium, Nyssa, Gordonia and Persea.

Hwy 70 along the north fork of the Feather River, about two miles south of confluence with Ranch Creek. Bare, south facing serpentine roadcut. Growing in seep with Mimulus sp. and Carex.

Mount Mitchell, near summit. Along nature trail. Forest of Picea rubens and Abies fraseri.

Outskirts of the city of Bishop, along margin of man-made canal. Surrounding vegetation is open, grassy scrub of Ericameria nauseosa with Fremont Cottonwoods and willow growing along canal banks.

Interior Coast Range, along Highway 130 at Adobe Springs. Serpentine chaparral of Ceanothus leucodermis, Arctostaphylos, Heteromeles, Quercus durata with Pinus sabiniana and Juniperus californicus.

Blue Oak Ranch Reserve. Dark Canyon below intersection with the main road. Small canyon with canopy of Umbellularia.

Blue Oak Ranch Reserve. Near canyon along southern border of the reserve. Woodland of Quercus lobata and Q. chrysolepis with understory of Baccharis.

Trail along North Fork of Big Pine Creek above Big Pine Creek Campgrounds. Small creek through subalpine Pinus contorta forest. Populus balsamifera dominant, with understory of Ribes, Salix and Cercocarpus.

Los Padres Natl. Forest northwest of Mt. Pinos, along Noroeste Rd. Granitic outcrops in open Jeffery Pine woodland with scattered Arctostaphylos patula, Ericameria sp., Artemisia tridentata and Pinus monophylla.

Los Padres Natl. Forest northwest of Mt. Pinos, along Noroeste Rd. Open, rocky slope with Abies concolor and Pinus jefferyi. Open understory of Ribes and Arctostaphylos. Drier adjacent slopes dominated by Pinyon Pine with Hesperoyucca.

North slope of Mt. Pinos, along Enchanted Trail. Forest of Abies concolor, Pinus ponderosa and Quercus chrysolepis. Open understory of Lonicera, Ribes roezlii and Ceanothus integerrimus.

Black walnut Rd. In creek where it passes under road through large culvert. Full shade, overstory of Q agrifolia, Juglans californica, Platanus; understory of Toxicodendron and Lonicera.

Crocker Canyon Road along ridge of Temblor range. Heavily grazed arid grassland with occasional Ephedra, Ericameria linearifolia and Gutierrezia californica. Growing on isolated granitic outcrops scattered throughout grassland.

White Mountains, in Trail Canyon. Along small stream through Pinus monophylla woodland with Artemisia. Dense thickets of Beula and Rosa with patches of Populus tremuloides and Salix sp.

Blue Oak Ranch Reserve. South corner of Reserve along west fork just above confluence of the three major streams on the reserve. Steep, shaded canyon with canopy of Quercus chrysolepis and Umbellularia. Shrub layer with Holodiscus, Lonicera and Oemlaria.

Huasna rd at '4.5mi to Huasna' sign. N facing sandstone outcrop, full sun with grasses, Vicia, Pholistoma, Collinsia, Pentagramma. Surrounding is Q agrifolia woodland.

Orestimba Wilderness, Henry Coe State Park, near Rooster Comb. Dry riverbed through foothill woodland. Rock cobbles with Eschscholzia, Heterotheca and Hirschfeldia.

Joseph Grant Park, at Grant Lake Trailhead. Scrub of Baccharis pilularis within mosaic of scrub, annual grassland and foothill woodland.

Gilroy Hot Springs. Coast Live Oak woodland with Foothill Pine, Chamise and Coffeeberry.

Almaden Quicksilver County Park, near Mockingbird Hill entrance.

Sierra Azul Open Space, along trail from Bald Mtn. to Mt. Umunhum. Rock outcrop in chaparral of Q. chrysolepis, Garrya, Cercocarpus, Gallium and Prunus ilicifolia.

Blue Oak Ranch Reserve. Intersection of High Road and Middle Road. Savanna of Quercus douglasii and Q. lobata Understory dominated by Carduus and invasive grasses.

Lehtinen Park, a managed forest of Beech, Maple, Oak, Hemlock and Pine, with understory of grasses and ferns.

Henry Coe State Park, in Braen Canyon. Along seasonal stream with Salix through woodland of Quercus agrifolia, Umbellularia and Q. lobata with Toxicodendron, Ribes, Rhamnus, Lonicera and Oemlaria

Green Mountain National Forest, along Hwy 125 at turnoff to Texas Falls. Forest of Birch, Cottonwood, Spruce, Hemlock and Maple.

Sierra Azul Open Space, along trail from Bald Mtn. to Mt. Umunhum. In stand of Umbellularia with Quercus chrysolepis, Arbutus and Heteromeles. Sparse understory with mostly dense litter layer.

Channel Islands: Santa Catalina Island. Upper Cottonwood Canyon, several hundred meters below the airport. Open Quercus pacifica chaparral with large boulders.

Blue Oak Ranch Reserve, at Windmill Flats. Disturbed soil along road with Baccharis pilularis and weedy annual forbs.
