Salt Point State Park. Pygmy forest dominated by Pinus muricata and Hesperocyparis goveniana. Chrysolepis chrysophylla, Arctostaphylos spp and Vaccinium ovatum common. White, sandy soil. Growing on bare soil in spaces between shrubs along trail.

Almaden Quicksilver County Park. Near intersection of Hacienda Trail with Buena Vista Trail. Mixed shrub community of Artemisia, Adenostoma, Toxicodendron and Marah.

California Polytechnic State University Campus. In front of Building 33, on bare soil beneath Camphor tree.

Trail along North Fork of Big Pine Creek above Big Pine Creek Campgrounds. Small seep in open, dry slope with Artemisia tridentata, Horkelia, Mimulus, Achillea and Rosa.

Joseph Grant Park, near Grant Lake. Open mosaic of Quercus agrifolia and Q. lobata woodland and grassland with patches of Baccharis pilularis. Mixed with G. gemmilucens.

White Mountains. Antelope Spring, near Hwy 168. Small perennial spring with sedges, willows and locust trees. Surrounding vegetation of high desert scrub with Menodora, Artemisia, Ericameria, Eriogonum, cacti and other shrubs.

Los Trancos Open Space Preserve, along Franciscan Loop Trail. Stand of large, old Umbellularia along an intermittent streamlet. Deeply shaded, with scattered Sambucus and a open ground layer of Rubus and Dryopteris.

Channel Islands: San Miguel Island. Near top of San Miguel Hill. Low, windswept, open scrub of Isocoma menziesii, Malacothrix incana and Carpobrotis chiloensis. Sandy soil.
