Common on swampy and marshy shores of Lake Iamonia, Tall Timbers Research Station, N of Tallahassee. Main branches strongly arching and many of them rooting at their tips and then forming new stems, the arching branches commonly multi-branched.

Abundant in mud, in and out of shallow water of temporary pools, open area of floodplain of Apalachicola River, just below Jim Woodruff Dam.

Rodman Resevoir, Ocala National Forest. Growing in very extensive mats covering the surface for many acres. Mostly in the upper portion of the resevoir, and in canals. Old genus name Elodea.
