In boggy clearing but on a slight rise linearly by ditch, the rise formed by soil thrown up in making the ditch. By Co. rd 2224 (Blue Creek road) ca 2 miles S of its jct. With Fla. Rt. 20 (between the Ochlockonee River and Hosford.

Abundant in seasonally wet depression of savanna, S of Blountstown.

Frequent in bottomland forest close to the Apalachicola River, S of US Rt 90 highway bridge, E of Sneads

Wade Tract Preserve 3.1 mi S of Hwy 319 along Rt 122, W on dirt road 0.6 mi. Located in upland sandhills on the eastern portion of the preserve Latitude 30° 45'; Longitude 84°1'; Elevation 73 m.

Plant a shrub, commonly densely branched, less frequently a small shrubby tree. In coastal scrub, on the road from US Rt 98 at the Ocklockonee Bay bridge to Mashes Island. Growing with Quercus chapmanii, Q. geminata, Q. laevis, Carya glabra, and others.

Lower stem slenderly woody, growth of the season luxuriantly tangled over shrub thicket; by small stream in Indian Head Acres subdivision, Tallahassee. Many leaves 5-foliolate, some 3-foliolate, sometimes either of those with a simple leaf opposite it.
